Let’s start with the, “where you’re from” part of this story. I’m from a working class section of Greenville, South Carolina. In this case, working class is a pleasant way of saying we were broke. Like many other Brothers, my road to Voorhees was unconventional. I was a decent high school student but I didn’t see college in my future. My Uncle, James Smith, was a Voorhees graduate. He spent two long years convincing me to go to college. I finally agreed to give this college thing a try. Unlike many Brothers, my first impression of Voorhees was, “Wow”. So, this is what college is like. Let me explain, I’ve never been outside of Greenville. For me, Voorhees was my first exposure to the outside world (that’s a scary thought). For the first time in my life, I was away from my family and home. Everything! Let me repeat, everything was new.
